Over the past few months, we have been showcasing and reviewing hockey training aids that will help you improve your shooting and stickhandling at home.  But what about a training aid for you to improve your skating at home? This might seem like it would cost a lot of money, but you may be surprised at how affordable this product is. In this overview we will be showcasing the Powerslide hockey slideboard.

Detailed Look at the Powerslide

Purpose

The purpose of the Powerslide is to give hockey players the feeling and effect of skating in the comfort of their own home. This is done by standing on a very smooth surface (the slideboard) while wearing low friction booties. The user can push off from one of the stoppers and then slide accross the board until they reach the other side.  Repeating the motion back and forth, it is supposed to replicate the skating stride.  Hockey slide boards are used for training in a number of hockey training facilities.

In the Box

The powerslide comes in a nice-sized nylon bag. The bag is nice because it makes it easy to store the slideboard away. When we dumped everything out of the bag there were two end pieces, the smooth slideboard, and two booties.

Assembly

Putting the slideboard together was easy.  All we had to do unroll it and attach each end-piece. One side is permanent and the other side can be moved to allow for more sliding room. To move the end-piece all you need to do is loosen the bolts (no tools required) and then move it in or out.

Quality

The construction of the material looks good and the material appears to be fairly sturdy. The slideboard is really smooth and looks like it will be a lot of fun to slide around on. Each end-piece has a thick rubber bottom in a wedge shape, which appears to be there to grip the floor better and stop the slideboard from moving from side to side. There is also a nice piece of foam on the top of each end-piece for you to slide into and then push off of with your feet.

Length

There are two lengths for the Powerslide:  an 8-foot slideboard and a 10-foot slideboard. The model we used was the 10 foot Powerslide.

Price

The Powerslide retails for $149.95 for the 8-foot size and $159.95 for the 10-foot size. If you would like more information about the Powerslide, be sure to check back for our full Powerslide review.
